Durban July gambler sitting pretty on a R1.5m cash pile

So you thought the Durban July was all about fashion? For a lucky few it was about money — lots of it.

The biggest winner on Saturday’s meeting was a telephone betting customer in the Western Cape‚ who won nearly R1.5-million after placing R3 120 on a Pick 6 permutation‚ according to bookmaker TAB.

A gambler in Stanger collected R902 615 for a Pick 6 bet of just R500‚ while another KwaZulu-Natal player — in Howick — bet a R100 quartet and collected R633 954.

TAB said its quartet pool on the big race‚ boosted by a R1.2-million carryover‚ reached more than R17-million and several other players had six-figure wins for small amounts.

A customer in Embalenhle in Mpumalanga and a tabGOLD client selected the first four past the post in the July and won R152 149 for a R24 bet.

A Western Cape digital customer was the sharpest Pick 6 player on the day with a R120 permutation delivering a payout of R541 569.
