The Limpopo woman accused of faking her own kidnapping will know within a week whether she will be granted bail.

Berdine Ronel Jordaan appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on charges of kidnapping‚ perjury and defeating the ends of justice.

The matter was postponed to August 8 for a formal bail application. Jordaan‚ 29‚ was arrested for faking the kidnapping of herself‚ her five-year-old daughter and an unknown 14-year-old girl in Ladanna‚ Polokwane‚ last week.

The Hawks’ Limpopo spokesman‚ Captain Matimba Maluleke‚ said they had received information from Jordaan’s husband that his wife had been kidnapped by unknown people in Ladanna on Wednesday last week.

He said they investigated the matter and found the victim’s car abandoned in one of the streets in Ladanna with all its doors wide open.

“As the investigation continued‚ it led us to a house in Musina‚ more than 200km away from Polokwane. Upon arrival we searched the house and the alleged three victims were found hiding inside a cupboard‚” Maluleke said.

He said the woman was then interviewed and it was discovered that there had been no kidnapping.

“Instead the woman was the one who had kidnapped the 14-year-old girl for an unknown motive‚” he said.

Jordaan was crying throughout the court proceedings yesterday and claimed she was unwell and that she had been vomiting blood since Thursday last week. Magistrate Joycel Abrahams arranged for Jordaan to receive medical attention prior to her bail application next week.
