Chiefs' Nhleko for Turkey tryout

FORMER Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Nkosinathi "Chippa" Nhleko is off to Turkey.

Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung said he received an e-mail from Turkey inviting Nhleko to feature in a series of friendlies.

"Chippa has not been playing regularly because competition has been stiff up front. It is only fair to allow him to go to Turkey where their matches will be watched by top scouts," he said.

Nhleko is also linked with a move to SuperSport United.

"We don't know anything about him going there," said Motaung, who added that they were content with the players they have. "There are no plans to sign new players, except in a situation where there is an exceptional talent. We don't want to disrupt the smooth running of the team by bringing in new players."

  • Meanwhile England Championship log leaders Queens Park Rangers are trying to lure Benni McCarthy into their stable. He is also on the wanted list of Scottish giants Celtic but several clubs in the Major Soccer League in the US are also hoping to sign him.
  • Sowetan can also reveal that winger Patrick Phungwayo is back in South Africa after a stint in Greece after terminating his contract with Panionion. He is rejoining BidVest Wits. Elsewhere, Moroka Swallows have signed Tshepo Ramokala from Mamelodi Sundowns and are also chasing Bucs' Dennis Masina.
  • The Dube Birds have recruited David van Wyk, who featured in their 2-1 win over SuperSport United in a match on Tuesday. Botswana player Joel Mogorosi, formerly with Pirates, is on trial with United.
