A new international television reality show, NUMBER ONE GIRL, will match African beauties against each other in a quest to find the best video girl.
The innovative concept has been launched in Cameroon by South Africa-based singer and producer Wax Dey, and is set to broadcast from March 2 to May 25 on CANAL 2 International, Central Africa’s most widely popular tv channel.
On the show, one girl will have to beat 24 other contestants to win 5000 dollars and a trip to South Africa where she will star in the music video of the song ‘Number One Girl’ by Wax Dey, featuring Nigerian singer Dontom.
A Lolhiphop Records TV crew has just completed shooting the first phase of the show, which entailed holding castings in four major Cameroonian cities to select the 25 finalists.
The 25 finalists are due to unite at Hotel Seme Beach in Limbe on March 02 for an adventurous and suspense-filled face-off. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and public voting.
Wax Dey conceived the project as a marketing tool for his first urban album, similarly titled ‘Number One Girl’. He is upbeat about the production.
“This is a world-first where set up a show to find a video girl and ultimately launch an as part of the show. It reflects the fast evolution of the African music industry, and demonstrates that Africa too can be at the fore-front of innovation in entertainment.”
The second phase of the show will bring in ten South African contestants to Cameroon where they will compete for the spot of video girl of the track ‘South African Girl’, taken off the same album.
A facebook page, NUMBER ONE GIRL TV, has also been opened to maintain interaction with a growing number of fans of the show ahead of its broadcast debut.
Wax Dey aka Nde Ndifonka is a singer, writer, tv personality and producer born in Cameroon and based in South Africa. He was named by American Magazine, Ladybrille as Man of the Month for May 2010, for the use of music in spreading social awareness among African youth. Wax Dey was nominated for Best Male Artist, Best Pop and Best International Collaboration at the 2012 Cameroon Entertainment Awards.
