Three treated for trauma after Joburg flash flood

Three people were forced to flee their homes after a flash flood from the Klein Jukskei River in Malanshof, Randburg, Johannesburg paramedics said on Tuesday.

The flood, which rose to about three metres above the road, damaged six houses situated along the river bank, ER24 spokeswoman Chitra Bodasing said.

"Residents were woken in the early hours of the morning to find their homes flooding... It is believed some residents had to evacuate their homes through ceilings."

Bodasing said paramedics were notified around 1am. Three people were treated for trauma and anxiety.

Neighbours were assisting the residents with food and other necessary items.

Vehicles had also been pushed several metres from the homes.
