Twitter users tune the odds with #VanRooyenDidntEven

It was short‚ but David van Rooyen’s tenure as the country’s finance minister – the shortest ever — will be remembered.

Van Rooyen was removed from the post by President Jacob Zuma on Sunday night just five days after he controversially replaced Nhlanhla Nene.

The brevity of his time as SA’s chief bean counter became a source of amusement on Twitter with the hashtag #VanRooyenDidntEven…

Many made fun of a meme featuring Zuma telling Van Rooyen at his swearing-in last week captioned “Just for the weekend‚ ne?” by saying “#VanRooyenDidntEven make it to Monday”.

@CyberGuarana felt sorry that he didn’t get to make his parent proud: “#VanRooyenDidntEven get a chance to call his mom from his desk phone.”

Tebogo ?@BuddyTebza had a similar concern: “#VanRooyenDidntEven get time to memorize his office phone numbers”.

Dr Morata ?@Morata4 lamented that “#VanRooyenDidntEven get a diary book from the department”‚ while D’Louxz ?@DeLouxz said: “#VanRooyenDidntEven get to have one document with his name and a National Treasury logo... let alone a signature block”.

Thabang Phetla ?@tarantular appeared to think it was tragic that “#VanRooyenDidntEven get a chance to claim he was quoted out of context”.

Ms Masego ?@Caprisel said the now former finance minister missed out on a virtual networking opportunity: “#VanRooyenDidntEven get to update LinkedIn.”

Jerm @mynameisjerm – who describes himself as “South Africa’s 38th best cartoonist” – seemed upset by Van Rooyen’s departure‚ and posted: “#VanRooyenDidntEven get a chance to see my cartoon in the Sunday Times.”
