Top Tshwane metro cop dies after his bicycle is struck by a car

A senior Tshwane Metro Police Department official was killed after his bicycle was hit by a car along Soutpansberg Road‚ near Rietondale‚ in Pretoria on Tuesday morning.

His child was with him at the time.

According to Tshwane metro police spokesperson‚ Superintendent Isaac Mahamba‚ the officer‚ a director in the department who was off-duty at the time of the accident‚ was trying to cross the road when a vehicle from another lane collided with his bicycle.

“The driver could not stop his vehicle on time and hit the officer and sadly‚ he was declared dead on the scene. His child was not injured‚” he said.

Mahamba said the vehicle that struck the officer’s bicycle had four occupants‚ who were all taken to the nearest hospital in a stable condition.

He said metro police were still in disbelief and saddened by the loss of the officer and sent deepest condolences to his family‚ friends and colleagues.

Mahamba said a memorial service and funeral arrangements would be communicated soon.
