Police minister Bheki Cele and national police commissioner are expected to be in Mpumalanga on Wednesday to intensify the investigation into the murder of German tourist.

The visit comes after a fatal shooting of a male German tourist on Monday at Numbi Road towards the Kruger National Park.

The man was part of a group of four tourists who were travelling to Mdluli Safari Lodge and were cornered by thugs driving a VW Caddy. They shot the driver after he refused to open the doors before they fled without taking anything from the tourists.  The driver died on the scene.

"As the South African Police Service intensifies its investigation into the fatal shooting of a German tourist near White River in Mpumalanga, police minister Cele and national police commissioner Fannie Masemola will on Wednesday visit the province," said Cele's spokesperson Lirandzu Themba in a statement on Tuesday night.

Cele is also expected to interact with the private sector, tourism body and the security cluster.
