Six die as UN plane crashes

KINSHASA - At least six people were killed when an aircraft operated by the UN mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo crashed on landing at Kinshasa Airport yesterday.

The aircraft broke up into pieces when it hit the runway in torrential rain as the pilot was trying to land just after 1pm.

At least six bodies were brought out of the wreckage.

Aircraft accidents are common in the DR Congo but this was the first involving a plane of the UN mission in the country, known as Monusco.
