Mathebula and Rooi boost Aces

AILING Mpumalanga Black Aces have signed David Mathebula and Thabang Rooi, both from Kaizer Chiefs, ahead of tomorrow's league match against Maritzburg United in Pitermaritzburg.

Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung confirmed the deal, which he described as a loan at the request of new Aces coach Paul Dolezar.

"Paul phoned me last night saying he needed help with regard to players. We agreed that we would give them David and Thabang. The duo have not been playing and we were concerned. We hope they will do a good job for Aces," Motaung said. The United-Aces clash can go either way at Harry Gwala Stadium. Kickoff is at 8pm.

Brice Aka, a former United player, could be a trump card for Aces, according to United's commercial manager Younus Kadodia, who expressed confidence in Byrone Hendricks and Mor Diouf to contain Aka.

"We are happy that we are playing our first match of the new year at home and we want to win it for our supporters, who we expect to come in numbers to rally behind the team."

The Maritzburg club are keen to continue where they left off last year after after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bidvest Wits at Mbombela Stadium on December 22. The hosts will count on their playmakers, defensive midfielder Khulekani "Chillies" Madondo and skilful midfielder Kurt Lentjies, to add to Aces' blues.

Ernst Middendorp's side should be wary of Aces striker Mpho "Zico" Malekam.

l Another 8pm tie on Friday features Santos hosting Lamontville Golden Arrows at Athlone Stadium.
