Awesome Amakhosi

KAIZER Motaung Junior inspired Kaizer Chiefs to a 3-1 win over AmaZulu, and thus hauled them back into contention for the league championship

Motaung, often the player most Chiefs fans love to hate, scored a brace in the first half of the game which attracted about 6,000 fans.

The match started well. Chiefs left back Jimmy Jambo nearly committed a fatal error in the fifth minute when he was dispossessed in a dangerous area but Reneilwe Letsholonyane cleared the danger.

Chiefs, with their coach Vladimir Vermezovic barking instructions from the touchline, took control after that incident.

In the 12th minute, Abia Nale, operating on the left in the absence of Siphiwe Tshabalala, sent in a beauty of a cross for Motaung to head home his opener for the night.

Ayanda Dlamini came close but narrowly failed to connect with Lehlohonolo Majoro's cross. Chiefs then launched their own attack and Josta Dladla drew a good save from Nhlanhla Khuzwayo.

Itumeleng Khune saved Ramson Zhuwawo's free kick on the edge of the penalty box in the 33rd minute. Chiefs invaded AmaZulu's goal and it came as no surprise when Motaung headed his second from Jimmy Tau's cross on the 35th minute.

Although Motaung was taken off at half time, he must have been pleased with his showing at this venue, where he has scored a total of three goals, the other one being against Mamelodi Sundowns a fortnight ago.

As expected, the visitors came back from the interval in search of goals. They were rewarded with 13 minutes to go when Tangeni Shipahu blasted past Khune.

Three minutes later Chiefs regained their two goal lead when Jambo unleashed a fierce shot to put Amakhosi in the driving seat again.

AmaZulu were caught napping as Goodman Dlamini had gone down with an injury and, thinking that Jambo would kick the ball out for a throw in, they stopped. But the Zimbabwean had other ideas and scored.
