Claasen tries shock tactics

SETBACK: Bafana Bafana's Daylon Claasen
SETBACK: Bafana Bafana's Daylon Claasen

DAYLON Claasen is undergoing shockwave therapy in a bid to hasten his recovery from a knee injury that has scuppered his hopes of playing in England and retarded his return to action for his Belgian club and Bafana Bafana.

But Lierse doctors say the 22-year-old international will be out for at least the next eight to 10 weeks, putting in jeopardy his chances of being fit for next January's Africa Nations Cup finals.

It has also ended his hopes of making it to the English Premier League, with the transfer window due to close this week.

He had been invited back by Queen's Park Rangers for trials before the start of the new Premiership season but his troublesome knee cost him a golden opportunity.

The Klerksdorp-born player missed the last two games of last season after picking up a knee injury and also sat out the three Bafana Bafana matches in June.

The nuggety midfielder suffered another setback with his knee after returning too early from treatment for pre-season training.
