FOLLOWING his side's first Premiership win of the season against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday, University of Pretoria coach Steve Barker praised his team for showing a will to win and the type of character he expects from a top league soccer outfit.

Ugandan international Geoffrey Massa scored on debut for AmaTuks after Atusaye Nyondo gave the home side the lead two minutes earlier at the Tuks Stadium, rounding off a solid 2-0 victory.

"Obviously I'm pleased. We needed to get a win," Barker said after the game.

"You can never fault this team for their resilience and hard work.

"I must be honest, I think we've played better this season, but it's never easy when you go 2-0 up after 20 minutes. It's a scoreline where, if you don't get that third goal, you end up sort of sitting back and allowing the opposition a bit too much space."

Both Nyondo and Massa joined AmaTuks in the off season and Barker said he was delighted with the form the attackers showed, particularly as they had not played competitive soccer in recent months.

Tuks started the new campaign poorly, going down to Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United in consecutive defeats, before earning their first point with a goalless draw against Maritzburg United in their last league encounter. - Sapa
